Apples: Foreground

Description

This was a project in my Watercolour I class. We had to do 3 paintings of the same thing, but use colour to emphasize foreground, middle ground, and background, making the emphasis different in each one. This is my painting for "foreground".

I used my photo, "Like Apples and Oranges", as a reference.

Middle ground can be found here, and background can be found here.

The values in this are nicely conveyed. I like how you've shown the lighting on the yellow apples in the middleground, and the way the background is indistinct- almost abstract. The red apples are very bold, and definitely pop in this- so, success on the foreground study! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="15" height="15" alt=":D" title=":D (Big Grin)"/>

The shading on the red apples is lovely, as is the fact that each apple's shape is unique. It makes the piece more visually interesting. I'm not as fond of the dark lines of the apples in the immediate foreground... I actually prefer how you did the shading and lines of the four red apples in the rear left corner. They're bold and vibrant, without the border.

Anyway, great job! I think this was a very successful assignment.
